When Parents Ask for An Evaluation

I suspect that my child needs special education services. I verbally asked for an evaluation. I was told that parents can no longer make requests for their child to be evaluated. Is this true?
The short answer is NO!
According the the law, Child Find, a child who has met eligibility must be re-evaluated every 3 years, and the child can be evaluated at the request of the parent at any time. Be sure to put your request in writing. Address the letter to the school principal. In the letter state your concerns and areas that you feel need to be evaluated. Be sure to write that you are formally requesting an evaluation for your child to determine eligibility for special education.
